RURAL TOURISM IN VALENCIA

VALENCIA'S STAND AT FITUR IN MADRID, PRESENTED

Alberto Fabra, President of the Valencian Region, accompanied by Maximo Buch, Valencian Government Councillor of Industry, Trade, Tourism, and Employment, presented the 1,545 square metres stand the Valencian Region will have at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid from the 22nd to the 26th January.

The presentation was attended by Marta Blanco, general directress of Turespaña, and by Ernesto Sanjuan (left) Tourism Deputy of the Valencian County Council, along with a large number of Mayors, Tour operators, and others associated with the tourism trade.

President Fabra also announced an ongoing advertising campaign to promote the Valencian Region on television and radio, on the Internet, and in newspapers, with the slogans "VACACIONISMO es Comunitat Valenciano" (in the Valencian language), and "WE ARE HOLIDAYS - Valencia Region". The campaign will be prolonged over a period of two years.

COUNTY COUNCIL SAVES HOTEL BUSINESS IN 2013

Alfonso Rus, chairman of the Valencia County Council, with Luis Marti, chairman of the Hotel Union (on his right) and Juan Molas, chairman of the Spanish Confederation of Tourism Hotels and Lodgings, presented the results of the tourism campaign in 2013 in which 28,000 senior citizens requested some of the 13,000 Low Cost holidays in Valencia partly financed with grants by the Valencia County Council for a total of 3 million Euro.

This three million Euro generated over 15 million Euro for the hotel industry, and enabled the maintenance of jobs for hotel employees during the tourism off season.

During the High Season, 55% of international tourists to the Valencian Region arrive from Russia, Brazil, China, Italy, and France, and when the December numbers are available, the overall total is expected to reach a record of over 60 million visitors.

Mr. Rus finished his intervention by stating the Valencia County Council will continue with the Low Cost five-days trips for senior citizens and he said he will speak to County Council officials in other autonomous regions to reach an agreement whereby Valencian people may travel to other areas in Spain, while people from other areas may come to Valencia on the exchange.

VALENCIAN TOURISM PROMOTION IN NORWAY

The Valencian Government promoted its tourism offer at the Reiselivmesssen Tourism Fair in Oslo, Norway, from the 10th to the 12th January. This tourism fair is expected to draw over 45, 000 visitors.

The Costa Blanca, and more especially Alfaz del Pi, is the most popular tourism destination for Norwegian citizens, and the Valencian Region had a stand promoting this town.

During the first eleven months in 2013, there was a 33.6% increase in Norwegian tourists to Valencia, who spent 20.6% more during their stay than in the previous year. These positive results are mainly due to an increase in direct flights from 12 airports in Norway to Valencia.

EELS (ALL I PEBRE) CONTEST IN CATARROJA

Ernesto Sanjuan, chairman of the Tourism Patronage of the Valencia County Council, signed an agreement with Soledad Ramon, Mayoress of Catarroja, Valencia, to cosponsor the XLIII edition of the forthcoming Eels Competition - All i Pebre, on Saturday the 21st September, as part of the festival in honour of Saint Michael, patron of Catarroja.

This gastronomic delicacy is a speciality of Catarroja, whose Town Hall will prepare 3,000 rations of the dish to offer visitors attending the festivities.

A Moorish Parade will coincide with the celebration of the All i Pebre competition.

RURAL TOURISM GOES TO THE BULLS

The First Valencian Rural Tourism Fair "INTERIORIZA-T" (a play on the word 'interior' referring to inland or rural tourism), has gone to the bulls by setting up 35 stands outside the Valencian bullring with the following opening hours:

FRIDAY 05th July - 05:00 p.m. to 08:00 p.m.

SATURDAY 06th July - 11:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. and 05:00 p.m. to 09:00 p.m.

SUNDAY 07th July - 11:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. and 05:00 p.m. to 08:00 p.m.

Alfonso Rus, (below) chairman of the Valencia County Council, opens the event.

Each stand at the Fair represents a town or village in a rural area of the Province of Valencia, and each town or village, as well as distributing leaflets and catalogues, also offers samples of the local gastronomy, so visitors may sample wines from Cheste, Requena, and Camporrobles; a herb liqueur and pastries from Onteniente; home-made marmalade, traditional dried sausage, and pastries from Sot de Chera; tapas or hors d'oeuvre Valencian style are offered by the Association of Hostelry in Paterna; sugar-coated almonds are from Riba-Roja del Turia; and lettuce with honey comes from Ayora.

Traditional Valencian music on the "tabalet and dolçaina" (drum and wooden flute) was played at the opening of the Fair, and on Saturday 06th, between noon and 01:30 p.m. a drum band from Alzira will play for thirty minutes, followed by a thirty minutes show by a group of dancers also from Alzira, and ending with thirty minutes of a mixture of both.

On Sunday 07th, a Carcaixent group will play music on the "tabalet and dolçaina" from noon to 01:00 p.m. and at 01:00 p.m. another group will offer Valencian music and dancing.

CORTES DE PALLAS ARISES FROM ITS ASHES - LIKE AN AVE PHOENIX

Alfonso Rus, President of the Valencian County Council (in the blue shirt on the front row), visited the village of Cortes de Pallas, that together with eight other villages is arising from the ashes of a forest fire that devastated the area June 2012. Alberto Saiz, Mayor of Cortes de Pallas (centre photo on the left of President Rus) was host to a group of Mayors from other affected villages in the area, among them the Mayor of Cofrentes, Raul Angel.

To the left of Mayor Saez, the Tourism Deputy of the Valencian County Council, Ernesto Sanjuan lends his support to the programme, as does the lady beside him, Sagrario Sanchez, representative in the Valencian Parliament.

Caused by a stray spark from the blowtorch of a worker installing a photovoltaic plate to endow an isolated cottage with power, and fanned by a 30 kilometres-an-hour wind, the fire rushed all over the area devouring pine trees young and old, almond and olive trees, and everything else in its path, aided by the bone dry underbrush.

Now, twelve months later, the village of Cortes de Pallas, joined by the surrounding villages of Sot de Chera, Andilla, Bugarra, Chulilla, Gestalgar, Macastre, Alcublas, and Dos Aguas, has joined forces with a plan to arise from the ashes, With the financial support of the Valencian County Council, a major project is being launched with the title "Environmental Tourist Bus Routes" that involve day trips from Valencia to one or other of the villages for groups

The County Council will foot the bill for the buses and local tourist guides.
